Kehinde Wiley was Alexandre Diop’s mentor for the 2022 mentorship exhibition “La prochaine fois, le feu”, unveiled during Paris+ by Art Basel. Their creations were on view at the Studio des Acacias.

For the second edition of its mentorship program, Reiffers Art Initiatives presented the exhibition “La prochaine fois, le feu” by Alexandre Diop with the mentorship of Kehinde Wiley, American artist and Barack Obama’s famous portraitist. Born in Paris and living in Vienna, Alexandre Diop is a French-Senegalese young multidisciplinary artist whose artistic process is guided by experimentation and historical observation of our societies. His singular approach is between painting and sculpture, using everyday objects such as books, photographs, metal, and wood, as well as fire, and other elemental compounds like rust and animal hair. His work has already been exhibited internationally, notably in Austria, Italy and in the United States of America. In December 2022, the Rubell collection dedicated an entire exhibition to his work during Art Basel Miami.

Alexandre Diop,

is a French-Senegalese artist based in Vienna. Diop builds his captivating works from all kinds of materials.

A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under the tutelage of Daniel Richter, Alexandre Diop's approach is between painting and sculpture. His creations combine different kinds of materials collected in his daily environment. Diop's work also explores the theme of African identity, following in the footsteps of his mentor Kehinde Wiley. His work has already been exhibited internationally, notably in Austria, Italy and in the United States.
