Biography

Fascinated by the way science treats the body, she uses new technologies
to create a fluid and digital identity, where the image becomes sculptural and the virtual becomes material. Her work ex- presses the essential relationship to the human body, a body where
the integration of virtual images and chimerical creatures intermingle. For it is indeed mermaids, fairies and other fantastic anthropomorphic figures that populate the artist’s imagination. The artist is represented by New Galerie, Paris.

“Who is Salomé Chatriot, the Dr Frankenstein of art?” by Matthieu Jacquet
— Numéro, 2020

“Electronic manipulation, mechanics, computer code, sculpture, performance or even 3D modeling, this young woman is what we can call a “jack-of-all-trades”. Fascinated by the visual arts and interactive design, Salomé Chatriot began her studies in Media Interaction Design at the age of 17 at the prestigious ECAL in Lausanne: although at the time she had no technical knowledge of the mediums that interest, her self-sacrifice and her keen desire to shape what she imagines will be beneficial. After many sleepless nights, evenings spent at school after class, she develops one of her first major creations: an interactive installation activated by the contact of her pulse and her breathing, which causes a chain reaction and ends up blowing soap bubbles. Today, she considers that this project brings together the major elements of her approach: the essential relationship to the human body, the place of breathing, the integration of the virtual image and the intervention of mechanics and technology in to create a process.”

“Next Big Things: Salomé Chatriot” by Galerie Editors
— Galerie Magazine, 2021

“The young Paris-based artist Salomé Chatriot has been causing a stir for her groundbreaking art that explores the relationship between man and machine. She works with electronics, computer coding, interactive design, sculpture, performance, and even 3D modeling, making it hard to categorize her practice. But just don’t call her a digital artist. “I find it so restrictive. Everyone wants to put you in a box these days…” says Chatriot, who is represented by New Galerie. “I think I would like to be considered an alchemist.” In Chatriot’s world, the physical, virtual, and digital states exist simultaneously.”
